The Nikon SMZ18 Microscope, currently located in the animal research facility, is a general-purpose imaging system capable of fluorescence and photographic imaging in bright and dark field. The microscope has two fluorescent filters: GFP Bandpass (FITC) with excitation 465-495 nm, emission 515-535 nm and RFP filter (Texas Red HYQ) with excitation 532-587 nm, emission 608-683nm. The zoom is 1:18, and the magnification range is 0.75 X - 13.5 X. The microscope is equipped with a DS-Fi3 color camera, and image data is acquired with the NIS Elements BR software (version 5.30.05 (64bit)). This software enables you to locate and measure the intensity of fluorescent reporters in samples ranging from single cells to whole organisms.
Since this equipment is located in the Animal Research Facility, all users must complete required animal facility training before access will be granted. Please see the Animal Research Facility section for information on receiving access to the facility and equipment.
